Care Instructions
Thanksgiving Cactus prefers bright, indirect light and moderate temperatures. It thrives in high humidity and should be kept evenly moist, especially during its growing season. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.
Soil
This plant prefers well-draining loam soil with a slightly acidic pH. A mix designed for cacti and succulents, with added organic matter, works well. Ensure the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.
Fertilizer
Use a balanced fertilizer with an N-P-K ratio of 10-10-10. Fertilize every two weeks during the growing season and reduce feeding during the dormancy period.
Repotting
Repot the Thanksgiving Cactus every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its pot. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage. Repot in the spring after the blooming period.
Propagation
Propagate by stem cuttings. Take a segment of the stem with 2-3 joints, let it dry for a day, and then plant it in a well-draining soil mix. Keep the soil moist and place the cutting in indirect light.
Pruning
Prune after the blooming period to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Use clean, sharp scissors to cut back segments of the stem.
Toxicity
Schlumbergera truncata is non-toxic to pets and humans. However, ingestion of large quantities may cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
Additional
To encourage blooming, provide a period of cooler temperatures and reduced watering in the fall. This mimics the plant's natural environment and helps trigger flower production.
