ACERCA DE

Philodendron serpens is a climbing aroid (family Araceae) grown for its velvety, heart-shaped green leaves and distinctive fuzzy, bristly petioles. It is native to tropical South America and naturally grows as a hemiepiphytic climber, rooting into airy organic debris on trees and in very humid forest conditions. Growth and leaf size can vary widely with light levels, humidity, and whether it is given a support to climb.

DETALLES

Instrucciones de cuidado
Give it bright, filtered light and steady warmth with high humidity for best growth. Water when the top of the potting mix begins to dry slightly, then water thoroughly and let excess drain; avoid letting it sit in water. Provide a moss pole or other support to encourage larger leaves and stronger climbing growth, and protect it from cold drafts and hot, direct sun.
Suelo
Use a chunky, well-aerated aroid mix that holds some moisture but drains fast (for example, a blend of potting mix with bark and perlite/pumice). The goal is an evenly moist root zone with plenty of oxygen; compact or waterlogged soils can lead to root rot. A pot with good drainage is important.
Fertilizante
Feed lightly during active growth with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertilizer, and reduce or pause feeding if growth slows in cooler/darker periods. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can damage roots and cause leaf issues; flushing the pot occasionally helps prevent salt buildup.
Trasplante
Repot when it becomes root-bound or the mix breaks down, typically in the warmer, active-growing season. Choose a pot only slightly larger and refresh with a chunky aroid mix; water in well and keep conditions warm and humid while it re-establishes.
Propagación
Propagate from stem cuttings that include at least one node (and ideally an aerial root). Root cuttings in water, damp sphagnum, or a well-aerated propagation mix under warm, humid conditions, then pot up once roots are established.
Poda
Pruning is not required, but you can trim leggy growth, remove damaged leaves, or cut back to manage size. Make cuts just above a node with clean tools, and consider using pruned sections for propagation.
Toxicidad
Like many philodendrons, it is toxic if chewed because it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. This can cause oral irritation, drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing in pets and people; keep it away from cats, dogs, and small children.
Adicional
As a climber, it performs best with a support kept slightly moist (such as a moss pole) and in stable humidity; low humidity often leads to smaller leaves and slower growth. Regularly check for common houseplant pests (mites, thrips, mealybugs) and treat early.
