Care Instructions
Aloe perfoliata thrives in bright, direct sunlight and prefers moderate temperatures. It should be watered sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. This plant does well in low humidity environments and can be grown both indoors and outdoors.
Soil
Aloe perfoliata prefers sandy soil with excellent drainage. A cactus or succulent mix is ideal, as it prevents water from pooling around the roots, which can lead to rot. Ensure the soil is well-aerated and not compacted.
Fertilizer
Fertilize Aloe perfoliata with a balanced succulent fertilizer, such as a 2-7-7 N-P-K formula, during the growing season. Apply the fertilizer sparingly, as too much can harm the plant.
Repotting
Repot Aloe perfoliata every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its current container. Choose a pot with drainage holes and use a well-draining soil mix. Gently remove the plant from its old pot, shake off excess soil, and place it in the new pot, filling in with fresh soil.
Propagation
Aloe perfoliata can be propagated through offsets or leaf cuttings. For offsets, gently remove the small plants growing at the base and plant them in their own pots. For leaf cuttings, allow the cut end to callous over before planting in well-draining soil.
Pruning
Pruning is generally not required for Aloe perfoliata. However, you can remove any dead or damaged leaves to maintain the plant's appearance and health.
Toxicity
Aloe perfoliata is toxic to pets and humans if ingested. The sap can cause gastrointestinal issues and skin irritation. Keep the plant out of reach of children and pets.
