DETAILS

Care Instructions
Dendrobium crumenatum requires bright, indirect light and high humidity to thrive. It prefers moderate temperatures and should be kept in a well-ventilated area. Water the plant regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Ensure the plant receives adequate humidity, especially in drier environments.
Soil
This orchid prefers a well-draining, loamy soil mix that retains some moisture but does not become waterlogged. A mix of bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss can provide the right balance of drainage and moisture retention. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
Fertilizer
Use a balanced orchid fertilizer with an N-P-K ratio of 20-20-20. Fertilize the plant every two weeks during the growing season, and reduce the frequency during the dormant period. Dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended strength to avoid over-fertilization.
Repotting
Repot Dendrobium crumenatum every two to three years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Repot in the spring after the blooming period. Use a fresh orchid potting mix and ensure the new pot has good drainage. Gently remove the old potting mix from the roots and trim any dead or damaged roots before repotting.
Propagation
Propagate Dendrobium crumenatum through division or keikis (small plantlets that form on the pseudobulbs). Divide the plant during repotting by separating the pseudobulbs with at least three healthy bulbs per division. Keikis can be removed and potted separately once they have developed roots.
Pruning
Prune Dendrobium crumenatum after the blooming period to remove spent flower spikes and any dead or damaged leaves. Use sterilized pruning shears to make clean cuts. Regular pruning helps maintain the plant's health and encourages new growth.
Toxicity
Dendrobium crumenatum is not known to be toxic to pets or humans. However, it is always best to keep plants out of reach of pets and children to prevent any accidental ingestion.
Additional
Dendrobium crumenatum is known for its unique blooming pattern, where flowers open simultaneously in response to sudden temperature drops, often after a rainstorm. This phenomenon is known as 'triggered blooming' and can result in a spectacular display of flowers.
