DETAILS

Care Instructions
Exacum affine requires bright, indirect light and moderate temperatures. It prefers a humid environment but can tolerate average household humidity levels. Water the plant when the top layer of soil dries out, and ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
Soil
This plant prefers well-draining loam soil. A mix of potting soil with perlite or sand can improve drainage. Ensure the soil dries out almost completely between waterings to mimic its natural habitat.
Fertilizer
Use a balanced fertilizer with an N-P-K ratio of 10-10-10. Fertilize every two weeks during the growing season to support its growth and flowering.
Repotting
Repot Exacum affine annually or when it outgrows its pot. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage. Gently remove the plant from its current pot, shake off excess soil, and place it in the new pot with fresh soil mix.
Propagation
Propagate Exacum affine through seeds or cuttings. For seeds, sow them in a well-draining soil mix and keep them moist until germination. For cuttings, take a healthy stem, remove the lower leaves, and place it in water or moist soil until roots develop.
Pruning
Prune the plant regularly to maintain its shape and encourage bushier growth. Remove spent flowers and any leggy or unhealthy stems to promote new growth.
Toxicity
Exacum affine is not toxic to pets or humans. It is safe to grow in households with children and animals.
Additional
To enhance flowering, pinch back the tips of the plant regularly. This will encourage the plant to produce more blooms and maintain a compact shape.
