DETAILS

Care Instructions
Ficus rubiginosa prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight. It thrives in moderate temperatures and high humidity. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry, and ensure it has good drainage to prevent root rot. This plant can adapt to indoor conditions but also does well outdoors in suitable climates.
Soil
Ficus rubiginosa prefers well-draining loamy soil. A mix of potting soil with some sand or perlite can help improve drainage. The soil should be kept moderately moist but not waterlogged. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Fertilizer
Feed Ficus rubiginosa with a balanced fertilizer, such as a 10-10-10 N-P-K formula, during the growing season. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks to support healthy growth. Reduce feeding during the winter months when the plant's growth slows down.
Repotting
Repot Ficus rubiginosa every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its current pot. Choose a pot that is one size larger and ensure it has drainage holes. Gently remove the plant from its old pot, loosen the roots, and place it in the new pot with fresh soil. Water thoroughly after repotting.
Propagation
Ficus rubiginosa can be propagated through cuttings. Take a healthy cutting with at least one node and place it in water or moist soil. Keep the cutting in a warm, humid environment until roots develop. Once rooted, transplant the cutting into a pot with well-draining soil.
Pruning
Prune Ficus rubiginosa to maintain its shape and size. Remove any dead or damaged branches, and trim back overgrown areas to encourage bushier growth. Pruning can be done throughout the year but is best done during the growing season.
Toxicity
Ficus rubiginosa is toxic to pets and humans if ingested. The sap can cause skin irritation, so it's advisable to wear gloves when handling the plant. Keep it out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidental ingestion.
Additional
Ficus rubiginosa can be sensitive to changes in its environment, such as moving to a new location or changes in light and temperature. Gradually acclimate the plant to new conditions to minimize stress. Regularly clean the leaves to remove dust and allow for better photosynthesis.
