DETAILS

Care Instructions
The Mexican Fence Post Cactus thrives in bright, direct sunlight and prefers warm temperatures. It is well-suited to dry conditions and does not require high humidity. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Soil
This cactus prefers sandy soil with excellent drainage. A cactus or succulent mix is ideal. Ensure the soil dries out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
Fertilizer
Use a balanced cactus fertilizer with a nutrient composition of 2-7-7 during the growing season. Fertilize sparingly, about once a month.
Repotting
Repot the cactus every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its pot. Use a well-draining cactus mix and handle the plant carefully to avoid damaging the roots.
Propagation
Propagate by taking cuttings from the stem. Allow the cut end to callous over for a few days before planting in sandy soil. Propagation is best done in the warmer months.
Pruning
Pruning is generally not required for this cactus. Remove any dead or damaged parts as needed.
Toxicity
Lophocereus marginatus is not toxic to pets or humans. However, handle with care as the spines can cause physical injury.
Additional
This cactus is very low-maintenance and can be grown both indoors and outdoors. It is an excellent choice for xeriscaping and can be used as a natural fence or barrier.
