DETAILS

Care Instructions
Narcissus bulbocodium requires bright, direct sunlight for optimal growth. It prefers moderate temperatures and moderate humidity levels. Water the plant sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. This plant goes dormant in the summer, so reduce watering during this period.
Soil
The hoop petticoat daffodil prefers well-draining loam soil. Ensure the soil has good drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can cause bulb rot. A slightly acidic to neutral pH is ideal for this plant.
Fertilizer
Use a balanced fertilizer with a nutrient composition of 5-10-10. Fertilize the plant in early spring before the flowering period and again in late autumn. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers.
Repotting
Repot Narcissus bulbocodium every 2-3 years, preferably in the autumn. Carefully lift the bulbs, separate any offsets, and replant them in fresh, well-draining soil. Ensure the bulbs are planted at a depth of about three times their height.
Propagation
Propagate the hoop petticoat daffodil by separating offsets from the parent bulb during the repotting process. Plant the offsets in well-draining soil and water sparingly until they establish roots.
Pruning
Pruning is not required for Narcissus bulbocodium. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after the flowering period, as this helps the bulb store energy for the next growing season.
Toxicity
Narcissus bulbocodium is toxic to pets and humans. All parts of the plant, especially the bulbs, contain lycorine, which can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea if ingested. Handle with care and keep out of reach of children and pets.
