DETAILS

Care Instructions
Paperwhites thrive in bright, indirect light and prefer moderate temperatures. They should be kept in a humid environment but can tolerate average household humidity levels. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry, and ensure it is not waterlogged.
Soil
Paperwhites prefer well-draining loamy soil. A mix of potting soil with added sand or perlite works well to ensure proper drainage. Avoid heavy clay soils that retain too much moisture.
Fertilizer
Use a balanced fertilizer with a nutrient composition of 5-10-10. Fertilize the plant every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to promote healthy growth and flowering.
Repotting
Repot Paperwhites after they have finished blooming and the foliage has died back. Gently remove the bulbs from the old soil, trim any dead roots, and replant them in fresh, well-draining soil.
Propagation
Paperwhites can be propagated by separating the offsets from the parent bulb. This is best done after the plant has finished blooming and the foliage has died back. Plant the offsets in fresh soil and water them lightly.
Pruning
Pruning is not required for Paperwhites. Simply remove spent flowers and dead foliage to keep the plant looking tidy.
Toxicity
Paperwhites are toxic to pets and humans if ingested. The bulbs contain lycorine, which can cause nausea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal issues. Handle with care and keep out of reach of children and pets.
Additional
Paperwhites are often forced to bloom indoors during the winter months. To do this, plant the bulbs in a shallow container with pebbles and water, ensuring the base of the bulbs is just above the water level. Place the container in a cool, dark place until roots develop, then move it to a bright location to encourage blooming.
